A leading construction aggregate producer was building a new sandstone quarry and needed a complete package of vibratory crusher feeders to equip its multi-stage crushing plant. The project required four heavy-duty feeders capable of handling abrasive sandstone across secondary, tertiary, and quaternary crushing stages. As a returning JVI customer, the producer already had firsthand experience with the reliability and performance of JVI’s equipment and once again turned to JVI Vibratory Equipment to engineer a comprehensive, turnkey multi-feeder package for the new facility. Today, all four feeders have been commissioned with onsite startup assistance and are running as intended.
How JVI Feeders Complete the Crushing Circuit
JVI supplied a total of four electromechanical vibratory feeders for this plant. Each feeder is engineered to meet the specific demands of its position within a multi-stage crushing circuit.
Secondary Crusher Feeder:
Following primary screening off-spec material is conveyed into a bin where it is then feed by the JVI crusher feeder at a controlled rate into the secondary crusher for consistent, efficient secondary size reduction.
Surge Bin Feeder:
Following primary screening on-spec material is stored in a surge bin. The JVI surge bin feeder feeds the material from the surge bin on to a conveyor belt. The feeder controls the feed rate to ensure the downstream equipment is receiving the optimal amount of material.
Tertiary Center Hole Feed Cone Crusher Feeder:
Following secondary screening the material is conveyed into a bin where a specialized center-discharge vibratory feeder that delivers material directly into the top of a cone crusher.
Quaternary Crusher Feeder:
Following tertiary screening the material is conveyed into a bin where this feeder meters material into the roll crusher.
Three Electromechanical Pan Feeders
Three of the four feeders in this project—the secondary crusher feeder, the surge bin feeder, and the roll crusher feeder—are JVI heavy-duty electromechanical pan feeders. Each shares a common design with the capability to be tailored to its individual application requirements. This approach gives the maintenance operator the benefit of standardized components and maintenance practices across the majority of the feeders.
Heavy-Duty Feeder Construction
Each electromechanical pan feeder features mild steel construction with a pan measuring 36” wide by 72” long by 8” tall, set at an 8-degree decline angle optimized for material flow. Each feeder is driven by two JVI electromechanical unbalanced motors. The motors are CSA certified Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, G for safe operation in hazardous dust environments.
Abrasion Resistant Wear Liners
All material contact surfaces are protected with 1/2” thick CorrHard high chrome stainless steel abrasion resistant liners on the bottom and side walls. These liners are bolted and fully replaceable, allowing the customer to maintain the feeder and ensure the longest possible operating lifespan.
Single Mass Design
The feeders utilize JVI’s single mass design that does not require tuning, eliminating a common maintenance headache associated with dual-mass vibratory equipment.
Isolated Vibration
Four isolation coil springs ensure safe operation. They ensure the vibration is isolated from the structure and only used to feed the material.
One Center Hole Feed Cone Crusher Feeder
The fourth feeder in this project is specialized electromechanical cone crusher feeder. This feeder is specifically engineered to optimize the feeding of sandstone at a particle size of -1” into a cone crusher through a unique vertical discharge.
360 Degree Cone Crusher Feeding
The center hole discharge feeds material evenly around the full circumference of the crusher, eliminating the lopsided wear patterns common with side-fed conveyor setups. The result is a longer-lasting crusher with more predictable maintenance intervals.
Heavy-Duty Construction
The cone crusher feeder features a wider, longer pan measuring 40” wide by 10” tall, with a 92” long tray section leading to a vertical center hole discharge with a 20” diameter opening, for an overall length of approximately 112”. The cone crusher feeder is driven by two JVI electromechanical unbalanced motors that are bottom mounted and CSA certified Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F, G.
Abrasion Resistant and Isolated
To ensure a long productive service life all material contact surfaces are protected with 1/2” CorrHard high chrome stainless steel AR liners, bolted and replaceable for easy maintenance. Four isolation coil springs provide reliable vibration isolation.
Engineered Add-On Packages
Integrated Static Chutework Packages
All four of the feeders include an integrated static chutework package. This pre-engineered arrangement provides a safe and stable feeder operation while ensuring proper material transition from the hopper to the feeder. By designing, manufacturing, testing, and shipping the chutework and feeder as a single package, JVI reduces engineering and installation costs for the customer.
Each chutework package features:
- Mechanically adjustable bed depth gate for precise material height control
- 1/2” CorrHard high chrome stainless steel AR liners on the back and side walls for a long service life
- Bolted inlet flange to easily mate the chutework to the hopper outlet flange
Trolley Packages for Crusher Feeders
Three of the four feeders are equipped with trolley packages designed to facilitate maintenance access to the crushers they serve:
- Secondary Crusher Feeder
- Quaternary Crusher Feeder
- Center Hole Feed Cone Crusher Feeder
Each trolley package includes a traveling mild steel frame with four heavy-duty trolleys designed to mount to customer-supplied I-beams. This arrangement allows the feeders to be indexed back from the crusher for inspection, liner changes, and other routine maintenance without requiring a crane or significant downtime.
Onsite Startup Assistance
As part of the project scope, JVI provided onsite startup assistance by a JVI engineer to ensure complete plant satisfaction. The startup service included hands-on commissioning of all four feeders, onsite personnel training for the plant’s operations and maintenance teams, and a thorough review of preventative maintenance requirements. All four feeders were successfully started up and are now running as intended.
Engineered for Reliability
This project demonstrates what JVI delivers to our customers in the aggregate industry: design consistency that simplifies maintenance, purpose-engineered vibratory solutions, and add-on packages that reduce lifetime costs. The three electromechanical pan feeders share a common platform — same single mass design, same CSA-certified electromechanical motors, same wear liners — enabling spare parts and maintenance procedures to apply from one feeder to the next. The specialized cone crusher feeder feeds material through a center hole discharge, loading the crusher evenly across its full circumference and avoiding the accelerated wear that side-fed conveyor setups produce. Variable frequency drives, integrated static chutework, and trolley packages enhance a solution built for long-term, low-hassle operation.
