Tunnel feeders are a key component of reclaim and surge tunnels as they regulate the flow of materials from the above ground stockpiles and storage areas to the underground belt conveyors. Typically, when reclaim and surge tunnels are being constructed the tunnel feeder is provided by a manufacturer, like JVI, and incorporated into the project by the engineering group that is designing the tunnel. The engineering group is responsible for designing the transition section that enables the material to pass from the above ground piles through to the feeder.

The tunnel adapter package acts as a transition mechanism for the material enabling it to pass from above ground into the tunnel. They bolt directly to the tunnel and can act as a support structure for the chute work. It also helps set the flow of material into the chute work to achieve the optimal flow.
